Bernie Portal
Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, also known as LP, manufactures engineered wood products and is one of the world’s largest producers of OSB (Oriented Strand Board). Homeowners, builders, and contractors can buy LP products through building material distributors and dealers.
From 2016-2020, I worked on many web related projects for LP such as campaign landing pages, product launches, online product quiz, trade show booth designs, and contributing to the design system for the overall LP product catalog.
MY ROLE:
UI/UX Design
YEARS:
Nov. 2020 - Sept. 2021
LP Elements Fence
Over the past few years, LP has expanded their portfolio and in 2019 I designed a landing page to help launch their new product line LP Fence®. After the initial product launch, LP expanded the product line by adding an additional board thickness. I redesigned various components to showcase the new product features for the LP Fence portfolio.
LP ExpertFinish Color Quiz
At the end of 2019, LP expanded its SmartSide portfolio by introducing ExpertFinish. ExpertFinish is a refinished siding option offered in a variety of colors. As lead on this project I saw this as an opportunity to create a fun, interactive quiz for our users. The quiz asks questions like “How much shade does your house get?” and “Is your house made of brick or stone?” to find the perfect siding color for a user’s home. The goal of the quiz is to make the individual feel like their selection is a personal recommendation and then have easy access to request a quote while also collecting a lead for future sales. Check it out here.
LP Where to Buy
In early 2019, I was the lead on redesigning and restructuring the process on how a user finds where they can buy an LP product.
The goal was to create a cohesive “Where to Buy” page that allowed the user to search by their area code to see what LP products are being sold near them. The user was also given the option to find a siding contractor to help supply them with a quote.
There were several challenges. The first challenge was the site was unable to connect to the back end of each distributor. The user needed to know that although the distributor might sell a particular product they might not have it in stock. Another challenge was the user would need to be able to select from 4 different seller types. This specific challenge was that one of those seller types (Shed Dealer) is sold through an independent network of shed dealers. I performed several rounds of user testing to determine the best placement for each of these features.
LP Portfolio Updates
In late 2018, my team was asked to give the whole LP Corp site a facelift. Our first task was to redesign the SmartSide portfolio. Since the completion of the SmartSide portfolio, we have been updating design systems with complimenting components for the entire site. We have collected an immense amount of data that governs which pages need the most attention, which pages we should get rid of, and which pages need to be changed for the user’s journey.
